Interview Q/A
1. Hi Saffron!! Let us start by giving us a glimpse about your real life, including one fact about you that is hidden from public knowledge. Hi! Thanks so much for having me! Okay, this was a much harder question that I’d first thought. Haha. I guess, one fact that not a lot of people know about me is that I wear glasses. Like I have a terrible eyesight. I’m completely blind without my glasses or contacts. 2. Do people in your real life know you’re an author? If yes, do they read your books? Yes, they all know I write romance novels. And yeah, some of them do, which is extremely embarrassing. Haha. 3. Is there any character in your books that you see as a reflection of yourself? Yes, most of my characters come from some part of me. I’d say that I’m most similar to Violet from Dreams of 18. She’s shy and understated and has anxiety issues. 4. What was the first book that you wrote and How did you feel when It got published? So the very first book I ever wrote was never published. It’s still wasting away on my computer. But the second one that I wrote, A WAR LIKE OURS, did get published and I was extremely happy about that. Although, that book is very different from my brand and voice now. 5. “My Darling Arrow'' Just messed up my mind badly! It was such a masterpiece. Was there anything special that gave you an idea about starting this series? Yay! Thank you! I actually read this article in New Yorker about this girl who grew up in a fenced community (sort of like a commune/cult) and growing up, she’d scale the fence and go to watch music concerts. So I was like, oh my God, I love this idea of scaling the fence at midnight and sneaking out etc. That’s where the whole concept of a reform school came about. And because I love girl friendships, I decided that it was going to be an all-girls school. 6. Do you decide the plot of your upcoming book first, or the characters? Always the characters. For me, my characters make the plot. Plot is and will always be secondary for me. 7. Did you want to be an author from your childhood, or did you have any other profession in mind as a kid? Not at all. I wanted to be a lot of things and I always thought writers were a different sort of breed and I wasn’t one of them. I grew up in India and well in India, everyone either wants to be an engineer or a doctor and since I sucked at math, I thought I’d be a doctor when I grew up. 8. All the girls of your “St. Mary’s Rebels” series hold my Heart, but I would like to ask you which one of those sweethearts is your favourite? Right now, it’s Callie because I’m writing her story. But I think it's Poe. Haha. I love how bold she is and how much of a troublemaker. Mr. Marshall is NOT ready for him. LOL! 9. You’ve been in the Industry for a few years. At what point did you feel that you’ve made it? Well, never. Haha. I’ve only been here for like, three years I think and on top of that, I only have about 5-6 books out. I don’t think that I made it. Not at all. 10. Which of your books was the hardest one to write? MY DARLING ARROW. Because I was writing it during COVID and many times I thought this would be the book that I wouldn’t be able to finish. I thought that I’d never crack these characters, especially Arrow. That guy gave me so much trouble. I both hate and love him. 11. Could you tell us a little bit about your next release?? So my next one is called A GORGEOUS VILLAIN. It’s an enemy to lovers, second chance romance with the pregnancy thrown in. So a lot of things. Haha. I’ve always wanted to write a story with, “Oops, my evil ex-boyfriend got me pregnant.” LMAO! And this storyline just suited Reed and Callie, especially how they are with each other, intense and volatile and passionate. I’m super excited about them and also all the side characters that are involved in this story, especially Callie’s really hot four brothers. 12. Do you read for pleasure? If yes, then who is your favourite author? Yes, all the time. I’ve so many but I guess if I had to pick one who completely changed my life and got me into romance is Judith McNaught. She writes historical romances and her books were the first ones I’d read back in college when I started in the genre.
13. Before we wrap-up let's do a random question round . What’s your favourite food item? Tacos! Ever googled yourself? Yes! I accidentally stumbled upon a very scathing review of one of my books so after that I stopped. Genres you prefer to read? Oh Gosh, so many – Historical romance, Literary fic, Contemporary fic, Women’s fic, Historical/World War II fic. I also like Dystopian fiction but very rarely. Your most cherished possession? So I’m putting the very thing that came into my head – My Harry Potter book collection. I bought them years and years back when they first came out and they’re all yellowed and tattered and I’m never giving them away. Worst gift ever received? Haha. Actually, I’ve never received a gift that I haven’t liked. Oh man, I’m only realizing that I’ve lived a very unadventurous life. First nickname you had? For some reason I can only remember the nickname that my high school boyfriend gave me. I’m sure people have given me nicknames before him but I can’t remember. And! I’m not going to tell you what my boyfriend called me so. HAHAHA!
